The stove is fueled by constantly feeding pellets made of highly compressed wood or other recycled materials into a burn area. Because the fire from the stove is contained and the pellets are so compressed, almost no smoke is given off and the smell of the fire is contained. Today's pellet stove heating systems are highly efficient and can reach up to a 90% efficiency level. The downside of pellet stoves are that they are fairly expensive, usually costing from roughly $1,000 to $3,000. This does not cover the cost of installation.
